Democracy Lab partnered with Bergoff Foundation and three other regional partners, from January 10, 2017 to December 31, 2018, to conduct a regional research related to preventing violent extremism. The overall objective of the project was to undertake research in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo and Macedonia on the root causes as inter-religious relations and legacy of past ethno-political violence, as well as socioeconomic factors and direct drivers of radicalization and violent extremism. The project probed the potential benefits of connecting PVE activities with regional peacebuilding and reconciliation efforts in order to prevent radicalization (process) and violent extremism (result). Democracy Lab published a report concerning the current landscape of radicalization and violent extremism in Macedonia, which can be read here. To promote the reports publication, Democracy Lab will implement a series of community dialogues, allowing citizens to engage with the reports findings and discuss potential community solutions. A dialogue with the community of Cair, Gostivar and Struga have been implemented, engaging 60 community members and resulting with recommendations for community initiatives in order to Prevent and Counter Violent Extremism.
